About Jon
Jon Dodd has been an attorney with a sole focus on representing injured individuals since 2000. He graduated from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, in 1996, with a B.S. in Economics. Jon obtained his law degree from George Washington University Law School, in Washington, D.C., in 2000. He represents plaintiffs in personal injury cases across Connecticut, resolving cases via mediation, arbitration, and jury verdicts.
Jon has argued appeals before the Connecticut Appellate Court and the Connecticut Supreme Court. He successfully appealed an Appellate Court decision that had denied workers’ compensation benefits to volunteer firefighters, gaining recognition from the Connecticut Supreme Court that injuries sustained while repairing the firehouse roof were compensable under the Workers’ Compensation Act. In another case, he successfully argued before the Connecticut Supreme Court that a new law allowing municipalities to assert a lien on personal injury settlement proceeds did not apply retroactively, and therefore did not apply to his client’s settlement.
Jon’s litigation experience includes:
- Workers’ compensation
- Wrongful death
- Product liability
- Premises liability/slip and falls
- Motor vehicle negligence
- Dog bites
- Uninsured/underinsured motorist claims
- State and municipal liability
- Dram shop (negligent service of alcohol) cases
In workers’ compensation matters, he has appeared in every district in Connecticut, trying numerous cases to Formal Hearings and handling appeals at the Compensation Review Board. Jon has won compensation for his clients injured in factories, construction sites, law enforcement, health care, correctional facilities, trucking transport, utility maintenance, and firefighting, to name a few. He has litigated issues such as employer/employee relationship, occupational disease, aggravation of a pre-existing condition, repetitive trauma, course and scope of employment, and undue delay in payment of benefits.
Jon has lectured on workers’ compensation and trial practice and taught mock trial skills at the local middle school level. He has served on the editorial board of Compensation Quarterly, a publication addressing workers’ compensation law in Connecticut. He has also been a proud member of the American Association for Justice and the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association for more than twenty years.
